The smallest waist on earth

Ethel Granger of England had the smallest waist size in modern times for a woman of normal stature, In this photo from 1959, her measurements were 36-13-39. She had a pierced nose, which must have been very unusual in the 50s.

This was achieved by Tightlacer. A tightlacer is someone who practices daily tightlacing; the wearing of a corset for long periods in order to reduce the natural circumference of the waist.

Some persons choose tightlacing for aesthetic reasons. Some do this to improve the figure, while others have a goal to achieve an extra-narrow, "wasp" waist. This can be important for male bodied people who cross dress in order to achieve a more feminine figure. Some people enjoy the physical sensations of tightlacing.

The term tightlacer is generally applied to someone who wears the corset for at least fourteen hours per day[citation needed], but many tightlacers wear their corsets for as many as 23 hours every day[citation needed]. The common size of the waistline of tightlacers is 19–21 inches (48–52 cm), unless they are undergoing waist training to achieve such measurements.
